8.5.2013 -My orientation was great and I love the BSP! They have so many volunteer opportunities that I'm interested in and I can't wait to get started. My first task is to promote the Back to School parade that is upcoming on 8/24. I'm planning to walk in the parade and also take pictures. The other event that I am attending this month is a Community PTA on 8/17. This event allows parents and the community to come together to discuss the improvement of academic and social outcomes for Black students. I'm more or less sitting in on this event so that I can see what its like but maybe one day I'll be able to contribute. I'll keep you posted as I go!
8.20.2013 -I started my first day of volunteering today! I did data entry and completed my task successfully :). I decided to volunteer every Tuesday morning (for 1 hour) before work. I missed the PTA on 8/17 but I'll attend the one they have next month. I'm excited about this parade and taking pictures!! I can't wait :)
8.25.2013 -The parade was amazing! I had such a good time photographing the event and I also made a few new acquaintances that I can link up with for volunteering and photography down the road. I can't wait to go back to the site on Tuesday to show them the pics! Below are a few that I took :)
9.3.2013 - Today I did more data entry but this one took more time to understand than to actually complete. It was still productive. I'm ready to take it up a notch though and do something else with the organization!
9.12.2013 - Guess who is now a published photographer because of this event-me! I received a request to use my photos from the event in an article with the NY Amsterdam News. I feel great :)
